Dell inspiron 7577 keys not working

24.10.2020 Dell inspiron 7577 keys not working

I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7 and a majority of the top keys on the keyboard aren't working; more specifically the Q-R, and the U-P keys. I've had the computer for about 2 years now. I've had a previous keyboard issue in the past where I would type a the "I" key and it would type both the "I" and "O," but this was usually fixed by just restarting my computer.

I've tried the keyboard troubleshooting procedure, but that didn't solve anything. I'm considering buying a new keyboard for my laptop but I don't want to waste the money if it is an issue with wiring and not the keyboard itself.

Does anybody have any clue on how to fix or test my issue? Procedure is available on youtube. But the only other possibility that I can think of other than damaged keys is that your keyboard connector may have been loosened.

Keyboards use a matrix to determine if a key has been pressed to they get a signal on a column and on a row. If the encoder is on your motherboard board and not the keyboard module, then the cable could have been partially pulled out, disabling a column or two of keys. When you take the laptop apart, first thing is to re-seat the keyboard cableand see if that fixes it. I have dell Inspiron n, and my keyboard's refused to work well. The top numeric keys and also some other keys do not function well.

What should i do? Does the laptop need servicing. Turn off the computer. If the problem only occurs in a particular program, you may need to troubleshoot that particular program. This software includes: Keyboard macro programs and External keyboard drivers.

After following the preceding steps and the notebook keyboard still does not work or neither work correctly, then I would suggest replacing the keyboard. I tries doing the above, apart from blowing it with a blower.

I also removed the battery and pressed the power button in case it resets the keyboard, and put the battery back again, but my keyboard is not working.

Its just been two years that m using this laptop, n m currently using a usb keyboard. If USB keyboard is working fine while plugged in to the laptop and if Laptop keys are still not responding, then your computer Keyboard might be bad and needs to be replaced.

Hi, Welcome to Dell community forums. It does sound like a physical problem to me But the only other possibility that I can think of other than damaged keys is that your keyboard connector may have been loosened. However, no concrete solution posted even though many of the issued are marked as solved. The keys might work fine for few hours, then they would stop working again.

Perhaps, I reinstall software too soon with ninite. And perhaps, the virus comes with one of the software? I'm starting to think that it's the BIOS virus. Any recommendations? I'm seriously considering switching to Mac just for the ease of access to customer service. I have always used external keyboard most of the time barely used the internal keyboard so I find out the issue about the defective keys when my Inspiron is already out warranty.

Thanks for the suggestions in advance. If it works ok with the basic Dell disc image then start reinstalling apps one at a time and see how it works. If its OK with just Windows then install apps one at a time and see how it works after each app install. SSD drives. Cakewalk by BandLab and Studio One 4. Are there any significant differences between disc image through Dell OS Recovery tool and disc image directly from Microsoft?

Before I noticed the keyboard issue, my would occasionally freeze and the solutions were either unplug and replug the power cable, or close and reopen the screen. People on the internet said Dell software is the culprit. Once I install a fresh copy of Windows directly from Microsoftthe occasional freeze issue disappears for good.

Win 10 is the same whether a Dell provided or direct from Microsoft. There are extra drivers installed with the Dell disc image and maybe some extra apps, but the basic Windows is the same. Why was my latest replies deleted? If this is how Dell treated customers, you think people will continue to buy your products? It is common knowledge than unsatisfied customers are more likely to discuss your products negatively. The way you deleted my posts showed a lack of transparency.

Instead of helping customers solving their issues, you silence them? After formatting and reinstalling Windows, the keys start working again temporary. I ran Windows update right away. Didn't even run updates from mfg, e. I went to bed for 6 hours and woke up, and the broken keys stopped working again.

This time, going through safe mode through a guest account didn't fixed the issue either. Going back to using the admin account, the keys didn't work initially but after a while started working again. However, now I'm paranoid about using this computer. My productivity has significantly gone down. I had other computer issues before in the past, but none costed me this much time and energy in fixing.

Going through local shops and they charge inspection fee whether they can fix it or not. If you do another clean installonly install Windows, do not install McAfee just use the built in and very adequate Windows Defender AV and Malwarebytes. Nothing else. If the keyboard works OK initially, wait a couple of days to see if it still works OK or develops a problem before installing any other apps. If OK after several days then install one app at a time and test it for a day or two and if it messes up chances are it was the app.I read in the forums about software problem but the difference is that I was using archlinux!

I called tech support and it was just a terrible service like the worst ever! I told him that even in BIO those keys were not working and he just didn't know what to do so he transferred me to customer service to get a refund for my warranty they never did I had to call 3 times until I spoke with somebody in Spanish and at last I got a keyboard replacement!. Dell home tech support its horrible just horrible and sorry guys if you are having the same problem its a hardware problem nothing else you can do but get warranty you can get it online, wait 3 days and then request a technician to replace it, also try to contact support in Spanish they know way more than the guys in the english call center if you do now know Spanish good luck!

The problem is with the keyboard ribbon connector, which is not properly aligned to the Laptop motherboard. Faced the same issue on my system. You need to be very careful in doing it as it may damage your device and void your warranty duh.

Insert the cable properly and bend it properly don't crease it so that the cable always stays straight. I have the same problem with my Dell Inspiron 13 i3 model. Same symptom, 2WSX keys randomly stop working. The problem seems to be coming back after few minutes. One thing to note is that I have another same year but an i5 model inspiron with LED backlit keyboard which hasn't been giving me any issues i3 model has no LED.

My next step is to change the non-backlit keyboard with the one with LED to see if that helps at all. Just wanted to throw my experience with this problem into the mix. It's a shame because the laptop otherwise is really good. Installing and using the external keyboard for a short while seemed to "fix" the problematic laptop keyboard.

All the inactive keys started working again. Maybe loading the drivers for the external keyboard straightened out the problem? I don't know if it's a permanent fix, so I'll report back with my findings.

My laptop keyboard went back to the same intermittent problem. What a hassle.

Dell, you gotta help us Inspiron owners out. This issue shouldn't be our problem to solve at our expense. It's a defect that Dell should own up to. I realise that this bug blocks your caps for a limited number of times. It prevents you for using those caps for around 20 to times.

If you push and keep one of the caps wsx eventualy it would pass the limit after 6 seconds or 1 minute and start working again. This method works for me and needs to be repeated for every session. I am having the same problem from 3 days ago on my G5 I try with several antivirus of Microsoft and other and nothing was found.

I try unstalling and instaling the keyboard drivers and unpluging and pluging the ribbon of the keyboard to the motherboard. The deactivation of the keys 2, w, s, x, and from today, CapLock seems to be more frequent. Then if I restarted after few minutes it worked, but if I restarted after some hours it didn't work.

Can anyone confirm my suspicions? My Inspiron is only 6 months old. When one key stops working, they all do. It did seem to occur significantly less over the past week, but now it's happening more often again.

Does seem to be a hardware issue. I tested it when I unplugged my laptop and let the backlight of the keys turn off when I knew I had the problem occuring. If so, what were the results? Yes I have tried the proposed solution. As I expected, it did not work. Additionally, I found out that putting enough pressure on the back cover around the area where the keys aren't working aka pushing the laptop down onto my knee around that area makes the keys operational again until I stop asserting pressure.

Also for some reason, spamming the keys beside the section that isn't working while also pressing the keys that aren't working sometimes allow for them to work during the press.
